How to use the online timer

  1. Pick a preset like 5 min to start instantly, or type hours, minutes and seconds and press Start.
  2. Press Pause any time and Resume to continue where you left off.
  3. When time runs out an alarm sounds and the screen flashes. Press Stop alarm to silence it.

The remaining time also shows in your browser tab title, so you can glance at it while you work in another tab.

Popular ways to use it

  • Focus sessions: 25 minutes on, 5 minutes off — the classic Pomodoro rhythm.
  • Classrooms: put the timer in full screen for tests, group work and clean-up time.
  • Cooking: eggs, pasta, steeping tea — set it and walk away.
  • Workouts: rest timers between sets, or the stopwatch with laps for intervals and runs.

Frequently asked questions

Will the timer still go off if I switch tabs?

Yes. The countdown is based on the clock time when it should end, so it stays accurate in a background tab, and the alarm plays when time is up. Keep the tab open and your sound on — closing the tab stops the timer.

How do I make the timer full screen?

Press the “Full screen” button. It is perfect for classrooms, presentations and workouts. Press Esc or the button again to exit.

What is the longest timer I can set?

Up to 99 hours, 59 minutes and 59 seconds.

Can I share a timer with a set time?

Yes. Add #t= and the number of seconds to the page address — for example #t=600 opens a 10-minute timer.

How accurate is the stopwatch?

The stopwatch uses your browser’s high-resolution clock and shows hundredths of a second. It is accurate for workouts, games and everyday timing, but it is not a certified timing device for official races.
